Sustainability

Leaving our land and our conscience undisturbed

How to really drink responsibly

No forest clearing, no irrigation, no bulldozers. No unnatural sugars or flavours.

Just trees, bees and time.

Mead, particularly when made with locally sourced honey, can make a claim to be the most sustainable alcohol in the world.

Bees help sustain the life of native flora.

Naturally good

It is well known that bees are beneficial for natural environments.

Hives are placed for the season by local beekeepers who genuinely care for bees and the environment they roam, helping keep wasps in check, boosting pollination, and leaving the land just as it was found.

By supporting sustainable beekeeping practices, mead production can help protect biodiversity and reduce strain on agricultural land.

This is Will, a local legend of a beekeeper, based in the Nelson region of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Local By Nature

Honey is both positive to both natural and social environments. Bees, by their nature pollinate the area around hives.

An ‘additive’ rather than extractive product, bee hives may be operated in addition to existing land use - creating socially responsible income streams.

Hive collectives allow risk reduction across regions.

Resource Efficient

Location matters when you consider that producing a litre of wine can take over 600 litres of water, and most RTDs derive their alcohol by fermenting cane sugar, which has a high water and emissions footprint.

Our Forest Goon packaging generates up to 87% fewer carbon emissions than lightweight glass bottles, and weighs less - meaning fewer trucks, less fuel, and less waste.

Waste Reduction

  • Use only what you need packaging for bars

  • Packaging reduction for consumer products

  • Return & reuse empty products

  • Naturally long product shelf life

Packaging and bottling with recyclable materials is a basic step, but seeking out ways to reduce waste is next - from providing bars a package allowing for no unused product through to consideration how packaging and printing can be reduced.

We offer discounts for returned bottles, and our goon bags can even be refilled if you return them to us!

Long Lasting

Mead has a naturally long shelf-life.

To be fair - mostly its consumed well before this is a factor - but unopened mead can last for decades. Even after opening, refrigerated mead will happily store for many weeks.

Vacuum packed (such as our 2L goon boxes) mean that you can pour a serving, yet retain the remaining mead indefinitely.

ABOUT UNDISTURBED

Our Story

Living long and well is important to us. With a little one on the way and thinking of the future, we began searching for a healthier, eco-friendly wine.

A beekeeping friend introduced us to honey wine (mead), sparking the exploration of local honeys and botanicals that are both good for the body and sustainably produced.
