Serving Suggestions
Mead adds interest and a different flavour to cocktails and may be paired with many foods.
Enjoy slightly chilled on a hot day, or at room temperature to let the flavours unfold.
Mead is a perfect after-dinner drink.
Mead Negroni
Delicious in a Mead Negroni. By swapping traditional sweet vermouth for a rich, aromatic mead, the drink gains a smoother, subtly floral sweetness.
INGREDIENTS1 oz (30 ml) Gin
(a bold London Dry is best to stand up to the other ingredients)
1 oz (30 ml) Campari
1 oz (30 ml) Mead
(modern botanical mead such as Undisturbed Kanuka works incredibly well)
Orange peel
(for garnish)
King James Martini
The King James Martini blends London dry gin with Scotch and Irish whiskies, softened by chilled mead and finished with an aromatic lemon twist. This cocktail suits a quiet after-dinner moment or a special gathering when you want something polished but slightly left of center.
INGREDIENTS1 oz (30 ml) London Dry Gin
Chilled or kept in the freezer
1/2 oz (15ml) Blended Scotch whisky
1/2 oz (15ml) Irish whiskey
1 oz (30 ml) Mead
(well chilled)
Lemon peel
(for garnish)
Bee’s Knees
A mead take on the classic 1920's prohibition era cocktail. The original drink is credited to Frank Meier, an Austrian-born bartender who plied his trade at the Hôtel Ritz Paris. It’s a simple extension of the classic Gin Sour (gin, lemon, sugar) that features honey instead of sugar, which creates a richer drink.
INGREDIENTS1 oz (30 ml) Premium Irish Gin
2oz (60ml) Dry Mead
½ oz (15ml) Honey syrup
½ oz (15ml) Fresh lemon juice
Serve with a lemon twist garnish.
Rhubarb’d Mead Spritz
Summer in a glass! Rhubarb'd mead with prosecco on ice, garnished with a slice of blood orange.
INGREDIENTSProsecco or Sparkling Wine
Orange Slices
Some say that these are optional, but they add a hint of sweet citrus flavour that is a finishing touch
Monsoon Light
A clever, unique White Negroni.
INGREDIENTSUndisturbed Mānuka mead.
